New Delhi : The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Thursday blasted Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh for first spreading rumours of its imminent merger into Congress and then taking its expelled MP Vijayashanti to call on Sonia Gandhi to join the party. One expelled TRS MLA too joined the Congress at Sonia’s residence.
Taking offence to Singh’s comments saying he is “happy to announce that Vijayashantiji who fought so hard for Telangana has decided to join the Congress,” TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao warned that the Congress is going on the collision course instead of the smooth creation of Telangana. “Where is the gazette notification that was promised on Tuesday to fix the appointed day for creating the state,” he asked.
“What signals are they trying to send? That they will dictate the terms and bulldoze us into a merger or pre-poll alliance? asked a senior TRS leader. Political observers say the TRS has got the exit opportunity it was looking for to have no alliance with the Congress and contest the elections on its own as it would sweep in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the Telangana region, without carrying the liability of the Congress.
