BJP veteran LK Advani, who has been systematically marginalised over the years, feels he is not a spent force, even at a ripe old age of 91. Rather than maintaining a dignified silence, after being omitted in the BJP list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, he is reportedly extremely upset at the manner in which he was rebuffed.
“Not getting to be in Lok Sabha is not the issue, but the manner in which it was done was disrespectful… No big leader contacted him,” said a source close to the BJP veteran, who had represented Gandhinagar for six consecutive terms.
According to a report in NDTV, before the announcement of the names, BJP national general secretary Ram Lal had contacted 10-odd leaders who are above 75 and asked them to announce their retirement from electoral politics. Advani, 91, however, refused to oblige, pointing out that some senior leader of the BJP should have had the courtesy to contact them.
