The woman who made history and became the first woman of menstruating age to enter the Sabarimala temple was allegedly attacked by her mother-in-law after she returned home. The woman has been admitted to the hospital, said reports.
According to NDTV, on Tuesday morning, when Kanaka Durga (39) returned home after two weeks as she was hiding because the right-winged protestors had threatened her. The 39-year-old woman was hit on her head by her mother-in-law and is said to be stable.
Kanaka Durga and Bindu Ammini, on January 2, became the first woman of menstruating age to offer prayers at the Sabarimala temple after the Supreme Court overturned a centuries-old traditional ban last year. Bindu Ammini and Kanaka Durga, who said they had ‘darshan’ at 3.30 a.m., had been prevented on December 24 by predominantly male pilgrims from entering the temple. Women and girls in the age group of 10 to 50 are barred from praying at the Sabarimala temple in line with tradition. This ban was struck down by the Supreme Court in September.
