The isolation period is over for Jaipur lion Tripur who had tested positive for Covid 18 days ago. The latest report of the lion that came on Saturday is negative and Naharhgarh biological park authorities are planning to send the lion to the open forest of the park in a day or two.
There are 13 big cats in Nahargarh Biological Park and samples of all of them were sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly. While Tripur was positive for SARS-CoV-2 that causes Covid-19, the sample reports of a panther, a white tiger and a lioness were inconclusive.
Senior veterinary officer of the park. Dr Arvind Mathur said ‘we have received the negative report of Tripur on Saturday and are planning to free the lion for the open forest of the park.’ Dr Mathur told that lion was asymptomatic but we followed the protocol for the treatment. The lion was kept in isolation, given boiled meat and an immunity booster diet and medicine. The team of caretakers also followed the Covid appropriate behaviour and had installed CCTV cameras to keep a check on the activities of the lion.
