Punjab Police Arrest Tarn Taran Resident Gagandeep Singh For ISI Espionage During Operation Sindoor

Chandigarh: Punjab police on Tuesday claimed to have nabbed a resident of border district Tarn Taran, identified as Gagandeep Singh for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during ``Op Sindoor’’.

The director general of police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav accused Gagandeep Singh, who had been in contact with Pakistan’s ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, a Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan supporter, shared sensitive information concerning army movements during ``Op Sindoor’’.

DGP Yadav said that investigations revealed that he was engaged in sharing classified details including troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security. Gangandeep Singh had been in touch with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five year, through whom he was introduced to the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). He also received payments from PIOs via Indian channels. Stating that police has recovered a mobile phone containing intelligence that he shared with PIOs, as well as the details of over 20 ISI contacts’’.

Police also said that the accused has disclosed that he was tasked by ISI handlers to gather sensitive information about deployment in border areas, including railway stations and Amritsar city. He has also admitted having received monetary benefits for espionage activities, police said.

For record, the Indian armed forces had carried out pre-dawn missile strikes on May 7 on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under ``Op Sindoor’’ in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in which terrorists had killed 26 tourists.

It may also be recalled that the Punjab police had earlier nabbed six persons for allegedly spying for Pakistan – Falaksher Masih, Suraj Masih, from Amritsar, Guzala, Yameen Mohamad, from Malerkotla and Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh, from Gurdaspur for sharing sensitive army information with ISI. Guzala and Yameen had also been in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, an official posted at Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi, who was expelled on May 13, last, for allegedly indulging in espionage, and receiving payments from him.
