Adil Ahmad Dar, who led the suicide attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama, was beaten by troops in the past, according to his parents. The attacker was a member of Jaish-e-Mohammad, which released a video just after the attack which killed 45 CRPF soldiers.

Adil’s father Ghulam Hassan Dar, while talking to the Reuters said that his son was beaten by troops in the past. Dar said that his son was radicalised towards terrorism after he and his friends were beaten by troops.  “They were stopped by the troops and beaten up and harassed. Since then, he wanted to join the militants,” Dar said.

Adil’s mother revealed that this incident led to anger in him against the troops. “He was beaten by Indian troops a few years back when he was returning from school. This led to anger in him against Indian troops”. Dar was also quoted by Scroll.in how his son would help his mother in household affairs. He had two brothers, and was the second among them. He wanted to become a cleric and had knowledge of eight chapters of Quran. He used to do odd jobs to raise money for himself. He earned about Rs. 50, 000- Rs. 60,000 in 2017 by making wooden boxes at a nearby saw mill.

Talking about his last meeting with his son, Dar said he last met Adil on March 19, 2018, when his son was working at a construction site. He came home in the afternoon, and left home on his cycle after lunch. “Days later, a photo of Adil wielding a gun went viral on social media, “We had no idea he would choose this path,” Dar said.

After the attack, a 10-minute long video of Adil Ahmad Dar went viral on internet, which was recorded before he led the suicide attack on CRPF soldiers. Adil starts of by saying that ‘by the time this video reaches you, I’ll be in Heaven’.  In the video, he also said that he had joined the JeM a year back. He says that he was given the opportunity to carry out the attack. He called on the people of Kashmir to join the Jaish and strengthen the organisation and their mission is not far away and more people should join and fight the injustice.
