New Delhi : Rahul Gandhi seems to have allowed rhetoric to get the better of him. While slamming PM Narendra Modi on Thursdayfor his silence on the issues that have been the cause of disruption of the proceedings in both the houses, Gandhi accused Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj of committing a “criminal act” by facilitating the travel plans of Lalit Modi.

Demanding that she should go to jail, Gandhi had said on Thursday: ”We have said that no discussion without resignation. Sushmaji has done a criminal act, she has helped a fugitive person. She is the minister of the government who has done a criminal act. So when you do a criminal act, you go to jail.” On Friday, it was the turn of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to take offence. “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi used the word ‘criminal’ for our leader and foreign minister…it is very unfortunate. He has defamed not only the foreign minister but the country. He must apologise or we will have to file a criminal defamation case.

In a calculated onslaught, Gandhi had also charged PM Modi with ‘speaking whatever comes to his head’ and added that this is an issue on which the people of country want to hear him and he is silent. On Thursday, as the words recoiled on Gandhi, it was apparent that Rahul too speaks whatever comes to his head. Responding to these statements, BJP spokesperson and union telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said:  ”Rahul Gandhi has asked why Prime Minister is silent. But we want to ask first why he was silent so long on 2G, Coalgate, CWG and the loot in NHAI. Why Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are silent on the corruption of chief ministers in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam and Kerala.”
