New Delhi : In signs of renewed trouble for the Bahujan Samaj Party boss Mayawati the apex court has agreed to hear a petition seeking the registration of fresh FIR against her in the disproportionate case.

The matter had been laid to rest in July 2012 as the court had quashed a nine-year-long DA case against Mayawati on the ground that the CBI proceeded against her without properly understanding its 2003 orders which were confined to the Taj Corridor case (relating to the release of Rs 17 crore by the UP government allegedly without sanction).

But now the issue has been rekindled once again by a petitioner Kamlesh Verma who is a former BSP activist through a public interest litigation plea and though the court has not passed any orders as yet, it has agreed to hear it.

For the BSP leader the good news is that the Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi has told the court that the CBI does not have any fresh material for registration of the FIR against the BSP chief. “Issues of donations to Mayawati had been heard by Income tax department and she had been given a clean chit in each case,” he told the court.

But it seems that the political battle has been joined with the BSP chief’s lawyer Satish Misra crying foul. “We have raised objection on the preliminary side, we have said that this petitioner is a disgruntled person, who was a BSP member earlier and thereafter he wanted to contest the election in 2007. He was denied ticket, and he became disgruntled and filed a political vendetta petition and it was not a Public Interest Litigation,” said Misra.  On the other hand, the BJP maintained that it does not practice the politics of revenge. “One should not be afraid if there is no wrongdoing. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case linked to Bahujan Samaj Party supremo over her alleged illegal wealth. This matter is sud judice. The Supreme Court will look into the same and when there is no wrongdoing then why should one be afraid. Let it be investigated infinite number of times,” said BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak, adding that the party supports clean politic
