Lucknow : Union Minister Kalraj Misra on Saturday stressed that the goal of ‘Make in India’ cannot be achieved without realising the dream of “make in UP”.

“All the developed countries have progressed by encouraging their small enterprises… India can also achieve the same and so after coming to power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the slogan of ‘Make in India’… but for this ‘make in UP’ is a must”, the Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) said here.  “I believe that without ‘make in UP’, ‘Make in India’ cannot be realised… UP is the biggest state of the country and also the basis of country’s development… the dedication of small entrepreneurs will first ‘make in UP’ and then ‘make in India’ a reality,” Misra said,  reports PTI. The Minister was speaking at a conclave of MSME entrepreneurs in the city.

“This is not a question concerning the BJP or Samajwadi Party nor the one concerning the centre or state government… this is the joint responsibility of both,” he added. The Minister said that by simplifying procedures and capacity development, China and other countries can be challenged in the MSME sector.

Referring to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who was present at the  programme, Misra said that he (Yadav) has the keenness to do something for the MSME sector but a detailed policy will have to be formulated for it.

“Till the union and state governments do not work in a coordinated manner, the schemes made for the small enterprises will not serve any purpose”, Misra said. Pointing out that there are some 3.61 crore enterprises in the country of which only 16 lakh are registered, Misra said that procedural complexities were responsible for the same which are needed to be simplified. In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of “make in UP” which is the biggest market in ‘Make in India’ campaign.

“MSME is the backbone of economy and small entrepreneurs can bring sweeping changes if they want… although our goods are good, we also need to pay attention on branding and marketing,” Yadav said.

In an ostensible reference to incidents of communal tension, Yadav remarked, “Central and our government both are trying to develop the country… although I do not want go into its details but we want that along with industry, the society should also progress.”

He went on to say, “Bihar got the package at the last moment… it could be the same here also… whatever has to be given should be given now.” The Chief Minister assured full cooperation to the centre in encouraging MSME in the state. The Chief Minister and Union Minister felicitated micro, small and medium entrepreneurs for their work in respective areas.
