An 29-year-old who went missing when she was 18-year-old from Ayalur village in Palakkad 11 years ago has been found living just 500 metres from her parent’s home, spending the past decade in a room with the man she was in love with.
The man lived with his parents, but they were completely oblivious of the woman's presence. According to reports, Sajitha, then 18 years old, left her home and walked into Alinchuvattil Rahman's residence next door in February 2010.
Since Rehman couldn't afford to rent a house, the couple decided to stay at his house, without being noticed by anyone. They started living together in a small room. Rehman had created a small opening in the room through which Sajitha used to step out at night. She would take a bath and sit outside for some time.
Nenmara Police Station House Officer Deepa Kumar A said Sajitha and Rahman kept their relationship hidden as they belonged to different religions and were afraid of a backlash. “Their story sounds unusual, but we took the couple to Rahman’s house and they told us how Sajitha had lived secretly in a single room for all these years.”
Three months ago, Sajitha left the house for some unknown reason. On the same day, Rahman quarrelled with his family and left home. Rahman's family had filed a missing complaint with the police.
On Tuesday, Basheer spotted Rahman by chance and found out that his brother and Sajitha were living together on rent in another village.
The couple was produced in court and Sajitha was allowed to go with Rehman.
