Kerala Rains wreak havoc: All we know so far about the massive floods in Kerala

With rains still pouring down heavily leading to flooding of dams and rivers across Kerala, the death toll in the state has increased to over 173, leaving more than 40 injured. As the flood situation continued to deteriorate in the state, as many as 33 dams have opened their shutters to release excess water due to heavy rain. Due to the heavy rainfall, the Kochi International Airport has been shut till Saturday. The heavy rains has been battering Kerala since August 8, which led to flooding and landslide.

The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday issued a stern warning to those spread fake news about floods in the state using social media. Speaking to the media, Vijayan said it is unfortunate that the social media is being misused and fake news is being spread about Kerala’s tragedy. “I wish to inform all that the state government will now take very strict action against such people,” said Vijayan. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday evening head to Kerala to review the flood situation in the state.
