Udhampur Encounter: Indian Army Soldier Killed In Action In Dudu-Basantgarh Area

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir continue to engage in high-risk operations following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, most of whom were tourists.

Srinagar: Indian Army soldier Hav Jhantu Ali Shaikh of 6 PARA SF, was killed during an encounter with terrorists in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday, April 24. The gunfight broke out in the dense, forested region known for its difficult terrain.

According to reports, the area falls under the operational zones of both the Indian Army’s 9 Corps and 16 Corps. The exchange of fire was still ongoing at the time of reporting, with security forces continuing search operations to flush out the militants.

The Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was established and a fierce firefight ensued. One of our bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed despite best medical efforts."

The encounter comes after an earlier confrontation on Wednesday, April 23, in the Tangmarg area of Kulgam district. Acting on intelligence inputs about militant presence, security personnel launched a cordon-and-search operation, which quickly escalated when terrorists opened fire.

The April 22 Pahalgam attack, one of the deadliest since Article 370 was revoked in 2019, triggered a sharp uptick in anti-terror operations across the Valley.

Meanwhile more reinforcement has been rushed to the spot and operation in the area was underway.

Meanwhile,  the Omar Abdullah cabinet requested Union Territory LG Manoj Sinha to summon the special session of legislative assembly to have debate over current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of terror attack on tourists.
