Poonch (J and K): Residents of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch District are attempting pick themselves up after the huge losses caused to them by firing from across the border. The residents, most of them villagers, said they are living in constant fear. Wakar Younus, a resident of the district, said Pakistani troops are responsible for the panic that is visible in the area. Around 50 shells have fallen on my land. My corn crops were destroyed. The shells have also fallen on the roof of mud houses. We are very disturbed. Our children are unable to go to school and no government official, teachers or police are able to do their duty. No vehicle comes here. We are very perturbed,” said Chaudhary Mohammad Hafiz Ahmedi, another resident. For the last one week, there has been an escalation of tension along the Line of Control — a ceasefire line dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
