Muzaffarnagar : Uttar Pradesh state police goes high-tech to nab a thief in Muzaffarnagar. A drone has been pressed into service by the men in uniform to track down the main accused among five charged with looting a trader. While the police men could not locate the fleeing thief, the drone did.
“Because there was looting, the police followed the thieves. The thieves after the loot fled to a sugar field and with the use of drone, we have traced a man successfully. If there is any such incident again we will make use of the new technology,” senior superintendent of police K.B. Singh said. He added that the district police was on the lookout for the four others involved in the crime.
Saying that drones are now being used extensively by the state police and specially in important districts like Muzaffarnagar, Singh added, “this is one classic case when even a petty criminal could be tracked down using drones and as it helps us tremendously in tracking accused persons, the district police made a request to the state police top-brass to help with at least few more drones.” Till few months back, UP police was using drones mainly for keeping a watch on law and order situation, big gatherings, political rallies, crowd management but now drones are being used for several such purposes too.
