New Delhi: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived in New Delhi for a day’s visit on Tuesday evening. He was warmly received by PM Narendra Modi at the airport with a hug.
The visit will be closely monitored for understanding between the two leaders on terrorism and trade. Despite India’s diplomatic offensive and efforts to isolate Pakistan, the Crown Prince had praised Islamabad’s “efforts for regional peace and security” and announced investments worth 20 billion dollars at the end of his visit to that country. If the Saudi statements are an indication, the Crown Prince has promised to de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan.
The joint statement in Islamabad had underscored that “dialogue is the only way to ensure peace and stability in the region to resolve outstanding issues”. They also underlined the need for avoiding politicisation of the UN listing regime, in an apparent reference to India’s global effort to blacklist JeM chief Masood Azhar.
