Kolkata: A day after getting interim bail from the Calcutta High Court, West Bengal Transport Minister Firhad Hakim took part in ‘Talk to KMC’ and claimed that the COVID-19 situation in West Bengal has improved a lot.
“Due to the restrictions imposed across the state the chain of the pandemic is being broken. The rate of affected and death has also gone down. This has been possible due to the initiative taken by Mamata Banerjee,” stated Firhad.
Urging everyone to take the vaccine, Firhad said that the only way to curb the pandemic is by vaccination.“Everyone should get vaccinated at the earliest as that is the only way to restrict the pandemic. Most of the safe homes and hospitals have beds now as the rate has gone down in West Bengal,” said the chairman of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
Notably, due to the Narada bribery case, Firhad Hakim was initially in judicial custody and then was under house arrest but has attended all the meetings virtually while being under house arrest.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressing a press conference said that the covid rate in West Bengal from 33 percent has gone down to 18-19 percent and the death rate in the state has gone down to 0.56 percent in comparison to 1.51 percent during the first wave last year.
On the other hand, Belur Math is also about to start safe home from June 1. The 60-bed facility will accommodate Covid patients who are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. Residents of Bally, Belur and adjacent neighbourhoods will be treated at this safe home.
