Popular Indian singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, has been of prime repute in Bollywood for lending his voice to songs that eventually turned out to be chartbusters. Recently in an interview, the lately turned controversial singer spilled some tea on why he stopped singing for superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
At an event the vocalist revealed how he has been responsible for making superstars with his voice and added that King Khan was in that list only because of him. A report in India Today quotes him as saying, “I made superstars with my voice. Till the time I sang for Shah Rukh Khan, he was a rock star. When I stopped singing for him – and I stopped singing for him – he came down to Lungi Dance.”
For the uninitiated, Abhijeet has sung many songs for Shah Rukh Khan including Zara Sa Jhoom Lu Main, Tauba Tumhare Ye Ishaare, Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaaun, Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha and Baadhah O Baashah among others but he stopped singing for the superstar after the 2007- post the release of Om Shanti Om.
Bhattacharya went on to reveal why he decided to make that choice and continued to stand by him. He has been quoted as saying, “It was a very small reason I stopped singing for Shah Rukh. In Main Hoon Na, they showed everyone from a spot boy to everyone else, but the singers. The same thing happened with Om Shanti Om. Stars sang Dhoom Tana.”
He further added, “It was my voice. But it wasn’t shown anywhere. The self-respect was hurt. Why should I ask them to add my name? The problem is I don’t lack anything. So why should I ask for this?’
This isn’t the first time that the singer has garnered attention from the media. His controversial statements seem to surface every now and then be it the film industry or political issues.
