New Delhi: Bollywood acclaimed director Onir, who is known for his independent cum commercial flicks, has now donned the producer’s hat for Bikas Ranjan Mishra’s directorial debut ‘Chauranga’. Onir, whose last flick ‘I AM’ grabbed the national award, was recently in the national capital to promote ‘Chauranga’ along with the star cast.

When asked whether he is eyeing a national award for this flick as well, the 46-year-old director exclusively told ANI, “Yes, I think this film deserves a national award.” The Bollywood director described this flick as “dramatic” and said that he believes in independent cinema. ‘Chauranga’, which won Golden Gateway of India Award for Best Film (India Gold 2014) at the 16th Mumbai Film Festival , is inspired from a real-life story based on the caste system in a village.

The flick is all set to hit the theatres on January 8, 2016 and will clash with Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar starrer ‘Wazir’ at the domestic box-office.
The film directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, stars Sanjay Suri and Tannishtha Chatterjee in the lead roles.
