Rishi Ajay Das, founder of Kinnar Akhara, expelled Mamta Kulkarni from the Akhara on Friday. He also expelled Mahamandaleshwar Laxminarayan Tripathi from the Kinnar Akhara for inducting Mamta Kulkarni, who is accused of treason, to the Akhara and designating her as Mahamandaleshwar without his knowledge.
Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, known for being part of several hit films in the 1990s, was ordained as a Mahamandaleshwar in the Kinnar Akhara recently. The initiation took place on January 24, marking her transition into a spiritual life. As part of the rituals, Mamta performed ‘Pind Daan’ at the Sangam on Friday evening and was given a new spiritual identity—Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri.
Mamta has also met Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi of the Kinnar Akhara and Mahamandaleshwar Swami Jai Ambanand Giri of the Juna Akhara. Several pictures and videos of the meeting have gone viral on social media, showing Mamta dressed in saffron robes with a rudraksha mala around her neck.
Speaking to ANI, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi stated, “Kinnar Akhara is making Mamta Kulkarni a Mahamandaleshwar. She has been named Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri. She has been associated with the Akhara and me for the last one and a half years. She is also free to perform devotional characters if she wishes, as we do not restrict artistic expression.”
The title Mahamandaleshwar is granted to senior Hindu monks of the Dashanami order. It translates to "chief of great or numerous monasteries," and carries the responsibility of spreading Sanatana Dharma, promoting righteousness, and contributing to society's well-being.
