“25 years together…17 years of marriage,” shared R. Madhavan captioning a selfie of himself and wife Sarita. The couple celebrated their wedding anniversary on June 7 and made a happy pair, especially when you consider that way back he wasn’t sure if he would ever get married due to his dark complexion! In the past, Madhavan had revealed that Sarita, who was then his student, asked him out on a date one day. “I was a dark man and thought it was an opportunity. Didn’t know if I would ever get married so I grabbed on to the opportunity and married!”
The star, who won praise for his roles in TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS and SAALA KHADOOS, revealed that he beat possible temptation on outdoor shoots by taking his wife along. This way, he was never lonely during outstation schedules. The rugged star believes that cultivating transparency helps your spouse trust you better. He himself often leaves his phone behind when he goes out, or keeps it with his wife if he is busy. The fact that he has nothing to hide, helps build her faith in him.
The couple has learnt to do their own thing as well instead of insisting on doing everything together. While homebody Maddy prefers chilling at home after work, his wife likes going out with friends occasionally and he more than understands her need to let her hair down, without asking questions galore. This helps them develop as individuals.
Forgiving each other’s mistakes, delegating duties, giving each other space during arguments, doing things they love together such as travel and golf, keeps the flame alive and well.
Maddy, who had started out as a personality development trainer, would evidently make a great marriage counselor as well!
