Renowned gynaecologist Dr Rustom Soonawala, who delivered the babies of several Bollywood celebrities, passed away at the age of 95 on Sunday (January 5). According to media reports, he died due to prolonged illness.
According to reports, Dr Soonawala delivered the babies of the Kapoor family, including Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor. Besides them, he also assisted in the delivery of Kareena's elder son Taimur Ali Khan.
Dr Soonawala also delivered Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s daughter Vamika. Although he retired from surgery years ago, he remained active in the profession, providing consultations until just a few years back.
He was a renowned and respected gynaecologist, and he has left an indelible mark on the medical field. A recipient of the Padma Shri award, Dr Soonawala earned a reputation as one of the most trusted and sought-after gynaecologists in India. He became a household name, especially among Bollywood celebrities, for his expertise in delivering babies.
Known for his compassionate approach and impeccable skills, Dr Soonawala was dedicated to his patients' well-being. His contributions to the field of gynaecology were unparalleled, earning him widespread admiration from both the medical community and his patients.
"He was a key contributor to the advancement of infertility treatment in the country," Dr Hrishikesh Pai, a former president of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India, said.
Dr Soonawal reportedly practised at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital and his son Dr Feroze Soonawala works in the same department now.
