New Delhi: His brand has successfully completed six years in the industry and he has done costume designing for stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Designer Nachiket Barve says being in the industry has made him learn many things and one of them is to acknowledge the feedback of people without bringing ego in between, and this is what he suggests to budding designers.

“I think people have to realise that there is no instant success in the industry. You have to have something original to give. You have to believe in yourself and keep pushing your limits. Also, sometimes listen to the feedback of the people as you can’t bring ego into the equation,” Barve told IANS from Mumbai on phone.

The designer is gearing up for his Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) comeback after five seasons with the winter-festive edition, starting in Mumbai from August 26. He clearly can’t wait to be back to his home ground as he is from Mumbai and started his career through Gen Next category of LFW.

“I am from Mumbai and it is really easy to showcase here. You have friends and family and many known people who have known the city and it’s kind of nostalgic and strange at the same time,” he said and added that his collection will have “Indian material, craft and technique in the global format”.

He is going to showcase a collection titled ‘Chiaroscuro’ and will be bold with striking Italian patterns that take its inspiration from Gothic architecture. The designer played with black and white with shades of grey and a few colour accents.

There will be a lot of structure and layering in the collection with clean and streamlined silhouettes featuring detailed and intricate embroidery.

“The collection is very effortless and can work well with both 20-year-olds and a 60-year-old,” he said. He says the best thing about the show this time will be that the collection will move from runway to retail format in no time.

“We are doing a collection which is fall-winter collection and it will hit stores 48 hours after the show,” said the designer, who has also styled for stars like Freida Pinto, Sonam Kapoor and Lara Dutta. Still interested in Bollywood costume designing?

“It is important for me to tell a story through clothes like the way I am doing for fashion. I have just finished as a costume consultant for a Marathi film, which is based on 1880. That was an interesting project for me. I would rather take up a few projects than try to do everything,” he said.
