Shahid Kapoor’s much-anticipated action thriller Deva hit theatres on Friday (January 31). Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, Deva also features Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, and Pravessh Rana in key roles. The cop drama has registered a decent opening at the box office. According to early estimates, Deva earned Rs 5 crore on the first day of its release.

A report in Sacnilk stated that the film's overall occupancy on Friday stood at 22.50 per cent.

Trade analysts predict Deva could see better numbers over the weekend with positive word-of-mouth and an increase in footfall. The coming days will be crucial in determining the film’s box office fate.

However, Deva failed to surpass the first-day collection of Shahid's previous film, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which earned Rs 6.7 crore on its opening day. In comparison, Shahid’s biggest opener to date remains Kabir Singh, which made a staggering Rs 20.21 crore on Day 1.

Soon after it hit the big screens, Deva received mixed reviews from the audience as well as film critics. A section of social media users praised Shahid's intense performance as a cop and lauded the action sequences.

Shahid plays an angry, young cop in the film, and can be seen packing some intense punches and delivering impressive gun-toting scenes.

Hours before the film's release, Shahid took to social media to share an emotional message with his fans, expressing his deep connection to the project and the effort that went into bringing it to life. He reflected on the years of hard work, dedication, and passion he poured into the role of Deva, a character that he describes as being close to his heart.

"One year of blood sweat and tears. 2024 was all DEVA !!! MERA DIL MERI JAAN. MERA KAAM MERI SHIDDAT. MERA ACTING KE LIYE PYAAR. MERI AUDIENCE KE LIYE MOHOBBAT. MERA SAALON KA EXPERIENCE MERA ANDAR KA CREATIVE BACHHA. SAB HAI IS DEVA MEIN..... Till today he was mine. From tomorrow he is yours," he wrote.
