Varun Dhawan started off in Bollywood as a muscle hunk who now has garnered a massive fan following over the years. The actor was recently present at the press conference for the success of his film Sui Dhaaga alongside co-star Anushka Sharma. Portraying the character of ‘Mauji’ has presented him in a whole new avatar. But none of it came easy.
Varun revealed the intense prep and behind the scenes instances that suggest the film’s director Sharat Kataria is one hell of a taskmaster. He said, “I think the specialty of Sharat is he is never satisfied with one take. He has taken 11, 12 and sometimes even 21 takes. He is also very superstitious so much so that he didn’t come today assuming it will not be good for the film. Sharad used to make us tired. He has made me cycle a lot for the scenes. And above all that he used to put so many conditions that he will not give AC neither umbrella while we were shooting in the scorching heat. He used to be like nahi iss se actors bigad jaate hai.”
When asked if he thinks that his new style in the film deserves a National Award, he said, “I don’t know how to react on this. Because when I started people said I am a chocolate boy. They used to say that it’s just because of my body I am getting work in Bollywood industry. I always knew that I was a good actor I think people took time to notice it. I would be happy if a film like Sui Dhaga and its actors get such prestigious recognition and awards.”
Sui Dhaaga has completed 7 days at the box office with a collection of over Rs 60 crore so far.
