Thane: The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday, December 5, arrested one teacher and one peon from Ambikabai Jadhav Women University at Vajreshwari in Thane district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant.
The principal of the college, located in Vajreshwari, who first sought the bribe, was on the run, the official added. The accused teachers allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from a 58-year-old complainant.
Sunil Lokhande, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Thane, said, "We have received a complaint on December 3, 2022, that two teachers from Ambikabai Jadhav Women University at Vajreshwari in Thane district demanded Rs 5 lakh for doing the documentation work. After receiving the complaint, we laid a trap and arrested Sugriv Andhale (52) teacher, and Vasant Harad (57), a peon, of the said university while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant."
Lokhande further added, " We have registered a case against the two accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and will take appropriate action against him. Also, we are looking out for Mahadev Kamble, the professor, and the main accused, who is on the run."
He added that they have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act by Vajreshwari police.
