The Maharashtra government on Monday issued a revised notification for the centralised online admission process for Class 11 for the academic year 2025-26, introducing significant changes to the minority and in-house quotas for higher secondary schools and junior colleges. The updated guidelines, detailed in Government Resolution No. Pravesh 1225-11/SD-2, were released by the School Education and Sports Department on 2 June 2025.
The revised policy, detailed in a government resolution (GR) issued by the School Education and Sports Department, adjusts the allocation of seats under the minority quota for minority higher secondary schools and junior colleges. According to the GR, “Minority institutions shall have a 40% minority quota. These seats may be filled based on merit by the school management until the completion of the third regular round. If seats remain vacant after the first round, minority junior colleges may transfer these seats, but if applications are received for the second round, admissions must first be granted from the minority quota before transferring any remaining vacant seats to the general category.” The resolution further clarifies that transferring vacant seats is entirely optional and not mandatory for minority institutions.
Additionally, the in-house quota for private higher secondary schools and junior colleges has been set at 10% of total seats. The resolution states, “Seats under the in-house quota shall be filled based on merit through the online process. This quota applies to candidates from secondary schools within the same premises or campus as the higher secondary school. Both minority and non-minority schools are subject to this quota. Seats must be filled by the end of the second regular round, after which any vacant seats must be transferred to the general category.”
For government and local self-government institutions, the in-house quota is set at 50%, applicable to students who have passed their Class 10 examination from state-run or local self-government schools.
The GR also outlines administrative measures, including the designation of a single unit for in-house quota calculations in Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, and Thane districts, while other districts will consider schools and colleges within the same revenue district as a single unit.
The changes aim to streamline the admission process while balancing the needs of minority institutions and ensuring equitable access to education across the state.
