Sudipto Sen and Vipul Amrutlal Shah's film 'The Kerala Story' has been mired in controversies ever since the trailer was dropped, and now with the film's release in theatres, the situation has only worsened.
The film has resulted in a political upheavel in the country and the makers are being criticised for allegedly trying to spread hate through 'The Kerala Story'.
And now, amid the controversies, a member of the crew of 'The Kerala Story' has received a warning and a threat from unknown persons.
'The Kerala Story' crew member receives threat
According to ANI, director Sudipto Sen informed that a crew member who worked for 'The Kerala Story' received a message from an unknown number, warning him to not step out alone.
The makers then approached the Mumbai Police and the crew member has now been provided security.
"The message threatened the said person not to step out alone from home and that they didn't do a good thing by showing the story," police said.
While security has been provided to the crew member, an FIR has not been lodged in the case as the cops are yet to receive an official written complaint.
'The Kerala Story' controversy
'The Kerala Story' released in theatres on May 5 and it is said to be based on true events. The film tells the story of three women living in Kerala who get tricked and trafficked to Iraq and Syria to join the ISIS, all under the garb of love and marriage.
The film stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in lead roles.
Theatre owners in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have announced a complete ban on the film citing law and order issues. Reacting to the ban, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah said they will pursue legal options against the decision if the government does not support them.
On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh has declared the film tax-free and special screenings were organised in Karnataka by BJP leaders. Extra late night shows are also being added in theatres located in major film circuits of the country to meet the demand.
