Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte, and Huma Qureshi are set to star in filmmaker Vasan Bala’s upcoming film, Monica, O My Darling. The makers launched the teaser at a special event held in Mumbai on August 29. The film, which marks Bala’s third feature directorial, is currently underway.
He previously helmed the unreleased Peddlers and the 2018 action-comedy 'Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota'.
Vasan Bala, who is in attendance, jokes about not making a one-word title film. He shares, “Ten years back, I made Peddler that was never released and got so much backlash for making Spotlight out of Ray’s story.”
The film also has Aarya actor Sikandar Kher, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor of Guilty fame, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar actor Sukant Goel, Super Deluxe actor Bagavathi Perumal, and Zayn Marie Khan, recently seen in the streamer’s anthology Feels Like Ishq.

Monica, O My Darling will be Rao’s second film on the OTT platform after The White Tiger. When asked RajKummar Rao about who is the real darling on the sets, he reveals, “Everyone is a darling, but the real one is Vasan Bala. We all love him as a person and a filmmaker. I have seen the film and we are all very proud of it, it is all our director, Vasan Bala.”

While filming of the film, the team were seen posting videos of flip the bottle challenge. When asked about it by the team, Huma funnily says, “It was started by Vasan ji. Looks like it will be our marketing strategy during promotions.” Rao interrupts and says, “It was started by our DOP Swapnil since we shot Badhaai Do. And when we started Monica, O My Darling, he started there too, and Vasan, being the competitor, he started too.” The entire team calls Vasan a joker on the set.
