BHOPAL : Tremors triggered panic in the state capital and the people ran out of their offices, including the state Secretariat, Malls and tall buildings on Tuesday afternoon.

With the memories of the April 25 tremors still fresh in their minds, they took no time in realising that it was a quake that was shaking their tables and chairs. People who were in Malls like DB Mall, Aashima Mall, C-21 Mall and Aura Mall, were told to leave immediately. People ran outside though mercifully, there was stampede like situation.

In other business hubs like MP Nagar, GTB Complex and New Market, people ran out from multi-storied structures to the ground floors.

They remained outside their offices for at least two to three hours. It was chaos in the state capital as it was for the second time that tremors were felt within the last fortnight. Last time, it was on April 25 when people had experienced tremors.

Many contacted their relatives on phone to know the status. They immediately switched on their TV sets and logged on the Net to know more about the tremors that hit northern, eastern and central parts of the country. Manoj Singh, a business executive, who was with his wife in DB Mall, immediately came out from Mall and contacted his relatives in Delhi. Sarita, a student in a coaching centre in MP Nagar, left the class and told her mother on phone that she was safe. Similarly, Raj Kumar who was in a restaurant with a friend asked him why he was shaking his legs. His friend replied that he was not shaking his legs. Having realised what was happening they ran out of the restaurant. Even in outskirts of the city, tremors were felt. In Baghsewania, Hari Kishan, a farmer, said that he felt that the cup of tea he was holding in his hands was shaking.

He noticed it and raised an alarm. Hari Kishan said, “Those living in Kuchha houses, are more vulnerable as these houses may collapse any time. So we would prefer to spend the night in the open”.
