BHOPAL  : The state government may be splurging over Rs 50 crores on holding the high-profile Vichar Mahakumbh at Ujjain, in which hundreds of intellectuals from India and abroad are deliberating on how to make the world a better to live in; but the adolescents and the young of the city – who, obviously, have the highest stakes in a better world and a better India know next to nothing about the event.

Free Press Journal spoke to some city-based youths to check their awareness about the much-touted event.

“Mein aisi baaton ki taraf dhyan hi nahi deti, bas itna pata hai ki barah saal mein ek bar hota hai Ujjain mein. Is sey jyada mein kuchh nahi bata paungi. Sorry ( I am not concerned with such events. I only know that Kumbh is held once in 12 years in Ujjain. Sorry, I won’t be able to say anything more about this,” said, 22-year-old Puja Katariya, who is pursuing BA LLB from Barkatullah University. Obviously, she is not even remotely aware of the Vichar Mahakumbh.

Similarly, 21-year-old engineering student Sindhu Verma says, “I know about the Kumbh which is held once in four or five years but I don’t anything about the  convention you are talking about”

“And if, as you say, such a seminar is being held in Kumbh, it is a waste of money. And why is PM being invited to a meet of intellectuals. Is he is an intellectual?” added Verma.

“I visited Kumbh for a day with friends but I don’t know about this convention,” said 25-year-old Komal Badodekar, who works in the contents department of a web portal.

15-year-old Manu who is waiting for her result of class 10 examinations, said, “Yes, I know. Isme bade-bade log aayenege aur apne vichar rakhenge desh ke vikas ke bare mein (Big personalities will come to the convention and they will present their views regarding the development of the country). Also, yesterday I was watching in news that a hut named ‘Chitrakoot’ has been built especially for PM Narendra Modi.”

“I’ve no idea about the particular programme but I heard that PM Modi will come. I visited Kumbh for three days to take pictures,” 23-year-old young photographer Ravi Sarai said.

In the same vein, Sheenauddin, a PG student in MLB College, says, “Yes, I know about Kumbh a little bit that it is being organised in Ujjain and people are going there take a dip in Kshipra River. Actually I’m a Mohammedan so I’ve know knowledge about it.”
