Khargone : The citizens visit the local vegetable market to buy fresh vegetables and fruits every day. However, the dirt littered all over the premises of the vegetable market is a subject to worry. The dirty surroundings invite flies, mosquitoes and germs, which directly or indirectly affect the fruits and vegetables being sold in the premises. The sellers have often knocked at municipality for a solution, but their attitude was no help to the vegetable market. The garbage bin that is kept in the premises is stinking intensely. The rains have added up to the dirty surroundings. Even a drizzle results into mud and more dirt all over.

From the seller’s point of view, the market area is not enough in accordance to the increasing population these days. The number of shops is also less in the complex built nearby. The sellers have to deal with the business in dirty and unhygienic surroundings. Due to the careless attitude towards the hygiene and cleanliness of the vegetable market, the left out vegetables rot and become a major reason for many diseases. These days, even entering in the market premises has become a challenge for the buyers. The little passages are filled with mud and dirt and bricks are kept on them to make way. This situation has been prevailing for past many years, yet no official cared to find a solution.

It may be noted that the vegetable market is only a few meters away from the municipality but no official is bothered enough to care about the condition of the vegetable market. The market does not even have a proper drainage system, due to which the rainwater gets collected and becomes stagnant. The mosquitoes hover due to the dirty water and affect the vegetables. The municipality had once thought of transferring the vegetable market due to its deteriorating conditions. However, the thought couldn’t rise up from the files and documents and the conditions still prevail.
