NAGDA : A prolonged ‘dry’ monsoon has led people to desperate measures, which include a slew of rituals to appease Rain Gods. People here performed ‘Ujmani’ for rains in religious places, farms, barns, farm houses in the outskirts of the city. Traditional delicacies were prepared and offered to the Gods. Monsoon activities in various parts of the country are continuing but Malwa and Nimad region of the state are experiencing a long dry spell. The month of June had some rainfall but more than a fortnight has passed without any rains. Standing crops in fields are withering and worries of farmers as well as traders are increasing by each passing day.
Municipal Council and Nagda Vyapari Sangh had made a call to observe ‘Ujmani’ in deserted places outside the city to please the Rain God Indra. In answer to the call for ‘Ujmani’, most of the commercial establishments in markets remained closed.
All schools except those run by Grasim were also closed. People in large numbers thronged Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple on the banks of Chambal, Atal Nisarg Garden, Ghinoda Bypass, Hanuman Temple, Tyagi Maharaj Ashram at Nain Dam, Hatai Palki, Dabdi and to farms and farm houses. Apart from puja,bhajans, cultural programs and sports activities were also held.
