BHOPAL : Bhopal recorded 3.34 cm rain fall in just half-an-hour in the afternoon on Thursday triggering water logging in many areas especially on roads. Roads were inundated, creating problems for people in negotiating traffic. The water-logging in many areas exposed tall claims of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration which always claims to clean drains along the roads.
Water logging also created traffic jam-like conditions on prominent roads like Police Control Room, Board Office Square, Jehangirabad, Jyoti Talkies, Bhopal Talkies and Bus Stand. Besides, various low lying areas, particularly shanties face brunt of water-logging. Rain water gushed into basement of many commercial complexes particularly in MP Nagar, Moti Masjid, Central Market, Peer Gate, Somwara Chowk. Shop owners siphoned out the rain water which gushed into their shops.
The sharp showers provided much needed relief from humidity. Morning humidity was 70 per cent while 97 per cent humidity was recorded in evening. For the last one week, humidity level continued to soar, enhancing discomfort level. But now after rain, it was big relief.
As per the meteorological department, rain and thundershowers are likely at many places over Tikamgarh, Chhattarpur, Panna, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Betul, Damoh districts and Jabalpur and Shahdol divisions. In Bhopal, chances of thundery activities are likely in the next 24 hours.
