BHOPAL : A six-day solo painting exhibition of amateur artist Ramesh Anand was inaugurated at Rangdarshani Gallery of Bharat Bhawan on Tuesday.

60-year-old Anand, who hails from Dewas, exhibited as many as 47 Abstract works in the gallery, which are attracting art-lovers. In his works, he portrays nature and the relation of humans with it. He has painted hills, forests, sky, birds, and Narmada River using acrylic on canvas. Most of his works use geometrical forms like triangle to portray hills with colour transparency.

An acrylic work in blue highlights how we live in society. In this work, the artist has painted many triangles and inverted triangles which represent males and females respectively. He has also tried to show how they balance their lives.

Another acrylic work in red, orange and yellow shows the popular temple of Dewas ‘Mata Ki Tekri’. Here the bright colour highlights the feeling of spirituality. In another work in yellow and orange, he has painted the colours of Malwa, which is known as the heart of MP. Here, the artist used a thin layer of acrylic colours, which gives the impression of water colour. The Asharfi Palace of Mandu has also been painted. The artist used bright colours wonderfully, which reflect positive energy. In some works, the artist gave texture using pencil.

Among the displayed works are 15 landscape drawings, made using black ink pen on paper. These works have been painted in miniature style. He uses zig-zag lines to give the effect of grass in all drawing works.

“I have exhibited my works in various exhibitions across the country but for the first time, they are being exhibited in Bharat Bhawan. I have never taken formal training in painting. Noted painter and archaeologist Dr. VS Vakankar was my guru. I like Rajasthani miniature painting. All my acrylic works are simplification of drawing works,” said Anand, who is associated with this field for the past 45 years.

“The colour application and space division which have been used by the artist resembles the work of noted painter Syed Haider Raza. The artist has used lines beautifully in drawing works and I think his works are inspired by miniature paintings,” said city-based senior artist Anant Sahu. The exhibition will remain open for visitors till July 19 from 2 to 8pm.
