BHOPAL: The Police Commemoration Day is celebrated in India on October 21 every year. It is organised in the memory of the martyrs, who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.
In the state, in last one year, five policemen have laid down their lives while performing their duties. They are constable Atibal Singh, head constable Mahesh Yadav, constable Basant Verma, sub-inspector Vidhyaram Dohre and head constable Rakhiram Yadav.
These martyrs showed exceptional bravery in fighting against crime and criminals.
Constable Atibal Singh was posted in Civil Line police station of Morrena. He was on night duty, at 8.30 pm, he got the instructions from the control room that a truck has committed an accident and the driver is trying to flee along with the vehicle. The two constables Atibal Singh and Sudhir spotted the truck at AB road and chased it.
They tried to stop the truck, but the driver mowed down Atibal Singh, killing him on the spot.
Head constable Mahesh Yadav posted in Nainpur police station of Mandla district has gone to arrest the notorious criminal Gudda when they were returning to the police station, the culprit pushed the constable out of moving vehicle and he also jumped from the vehicle.
After getting down the Mahesh Yadav tried to catch the culprit. Gudda killed him with a stone, by hitting him on his head. Mahesh Yadav died during course of treatment.
Head Constable Basant Verma had laid down his life while saving a 10-year-old boy from drowning in river Narmada, on the occasion of Bhutri Amavasya, in Barwani district.
He was deputed to control the crowd coming to take bath at the ghats.
One 10 year old boy Antrich Upadhaya was seen drowning in the river. The Basant jumped in the river to save the boy, he successfully saved the boy, but in the process he got injuries and died.
Sub Inspector Vidhyaram Dohre posted in Indore was on patrolling, one of the unidentified vehicle hit him. After three day of treatment he succumbed to his injuries.
In the month of August head constable Rikhiram Yadav a driver, posted in Hoshangabad has died while performing the VIP duty.
The chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was on the tour of Pachmari with the state cabinet. Rikhiram was on duty despite of his bad health, he died due to heart attack, before he could send to the hospital.
A function will be organised at the Lal Parade ground on October 21. The governor OP Kohli, home minister Bhupendra Singh Thakur, ACS BP Singh, DGP Rishi Shukla, family members of martyr family and other present and retired personnel will be attend the programme.
They will lay wreath on the memorial and will keep two minutes silence to be followed by march past.
10 CRPF jawans were killed by Chinese on this day
On October 21, in the year 1959, patrolling party of CRPF, led by sub inspector Karan Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese force at Hot Springs situated in Ladhak. Ten jawans were killed in the ambush, the bravery and resultant sacrifice of jawans fighting at 16,000 feet altitude, in extreme weather conditions and against all odds, setting an example.
It became the example of the rarest of the rare courage, Indo – Tibetan Border Police sends a representative party of all police force, of the country to Hot Springs, Laddakh every year to pay homage to the martyrs who have laid down their lives on October 21, while guarding national frontiers.
