BHOPAL: World Heart Day will be observed on September 29 across the world. A survey conducted by Indus Health Plus indicates that males are at a higher risk of suffering from cardio-vascular diseases. 12.47 per cent of males and 9.51 per cent of females in Bhopal are suffering from CVDs.
The sample size for the study was 14,610 persons, who underwent a preventive health check-up during January 2014 – August 2015. The study indicates that population between 25-35 years suffering from heart diseases had wrong eating habits and sedentary lifestyle. Around 10 per cent of working males from middle age group were under risk of suffering a heart stroke. Stress is the key factor for aggravating heart ailments across all age groups. The report highlights that not only the number of patients of heart diseases is increasing but the average age of heart patients is also coming down to late 20’s and early 30’s.
Around 35-45 per cent of young population is at risk of heart diseases with 20 per cent being males and close to 15 per cent being females. It has been observed that hypertension is a major contributor to rising incidence of heart diseases in the 35-45 years age group. Undetected or ignored hypertension leads to cardiac diseases in patients with or without family history. . Nearly 8 per cent of males and 7 per cent of females are at risk of obesity-induced heart diseases. An increase in cholesterol level amongst population is also a contributory factor. Frequent chest pain, acidity and breathlessness during exertion are some of common symptoms which are often ignored by people. This may lead to heart problems if not treated in time.
