BHOPAL : The District and Sessions court of Bhopal, on Friday, issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against former chief minister and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh in connection with irregularities in appointments and merger of services of officers of Vidhan Sabha Secretariat with different departments during his tenure as chief minister (1993-2003). The next hearing is scheduled for March 14.

It is learnt that Digvijay Singh is reaching Bhopal on Saturday and may appear in the court around 11 am A supplementary charge-sheet running into 7000 pages was filed against eight accused including Digvijay Singh by the Jehangirabad police in the court of ADJ Kashinath Singh on Friday.

An application, on behalf of Digvijay Singh was filed in the court saying that he would not be able to attend the hearing as he was busy with Adhivasi Sammelan in Ujjain being held on Friday in connection with the 125th anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. Rejecting the plea, the court, in its order, said that notice was served at his Bhopal-based bungalow and through mail on his e-mail address.

All the remaining accused, who appeared in the court, were granted bail. Jahangirabad police had filed FIR against 19 including Digvijay Singh and the then Vidhan Sabha speaker Sriniwas Tiwari on February 27,2015 and five names were added during investigations. As per the challan, Digvijay Singh has been found involved in illegal appointments in Assembly Secretariat and merger of services of appointed officials in other departments.
