BHOPAL : The High Court granted anticipatory bail to nine persons, accused in the Vidhan Sabha appointments ‘scam’ on Wednesday. Former Vidhan Sabha Speaker Shriniwas Tiwari has already been given anticipatory bail in the case by the Supreme Court.
Those who have been given anticipatory bail are Ramesh Kumar, Devendra Tiwari, Brahmchari Prasad, Rajesh Dwivedi, Amit Awasthi, Pradeep Mishra, Anil Kumar, Yagna Narain and Sukramani Mishra.
An FIR (first information report) was filed against 19 persons, including Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and Shriniwas Tiwari in connection with irregular appointments to the legislature secretariat during the Congress regime on February 27 this year.
Deputy secretary of the state assembly Shyamlal Maithil had filed the FIR at Jehangirabad police station in Bhopal.
The FIR was filed under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the recommendations of the Justice (retired) Sachindra Dwivedi committee, which found the appointments illegal and recommended dismissal of 17 persons.
CSP (Jehangirabad) Salim Khan confirmed that nine accused have been granted anticipatory bail.
