BHOPAL: NGT has instructed AIIMS, People Hospital and JK Hospital to reply on the issue of bio-medical waste. As per norms, one incinerator per 10,000 beds is necessary for hospitals. In the past 10 years, the number of beds in government and private hospitals has grown to over 9,000 in the state capital, with more than 4,000 beds added in government hospitals alone, including district hospitals, community health centres, primary health centre and civil hospitals. Additionally, there are five medical colleges with a minimum capacity of 750 beds. All these medical colleges, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal, rely on Bhopal Incinerator Limited for their biomedical disposal as well. Advocate Schin Verma, while talking to Free Press, said, “AIIMS, People Hospital and JK Hospital. They have to reply by April 26.”
