Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): A portion of the newly constructed Narmadapuram-Itarsi-Betul highway was submerged up to 1.5 feet in water, forcing authorities to close it temporarily for vehicular movement. Vehicles on both sides of highway roads have been struggling to ply here.
The excessive rainfall in Narmadapuram district since Monday night causes rivers to overflow here. The district has received an average of 35.5 mm of rain. Now the overall figure of rainfall has increased to 217.9 mm. There has been an increase of water level about 5 feet in Tawa Dam. It is still raining. Narmada River is running at 935 feet, Seoni Malwa in the district has received the highest rainfall of 75 mm.
Narmadapuram received 16mm of rainfall, Itarsi 40.8 mm, Makhannagar 71 mm, Sohagpur 45.3 mm, Pipariya 3 mm, Bankhedi 2.2 mm, Pachmarhi 17.2 mm and Dollaria 49.1mm of rain.
The weather became pleasant with the drop in temperature. The water level in the rivers has started increasing. Seoni Malwa has received the highest rainfall of 75 mm, the average rainfall in the district in the last 24 hours is 35.5 mm and the season's rainfall has increased to 217.9 mm, as against 261.5 mm last year.
After heavy downpour, rain water has entered residential areas of the city which exposed the drainage system of municipalities.
Incessant heavy rains in the district have flooded some schools in Itarsi town, where polling stations have been set up for urban body elections; the district administration has started the approach road to these polling booths by pouring ballast morum soil.
