MPHRC recommends Rs 3L relief in custodial death case

BHOPAL: MP Human Rights Commission, in a case of custodial death, has recommended giving interim relief of Rs 3 Lakh to the kin of the deceased in a month. The deceased, named Pankaj Vaishnav was a peon in court and he was brought to Police Post, MIG, Indore for interrogation in a case of theft of a scooter. Vaishnav died in police custody on December 19, 2015. As per inquiry report of Judicial Magistrate, it was a case of human killing and not suicide. The Commission in its recommendation said since Vaishnav died during judicial custody hence, the state should give compensation to his kin. The Commission would also investigate into the report of DIG, Indore in which it was stated that the deceased was not tortured in Police Station. A team under supervision of ADGP would investigate in this matter.
