Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): As many as seven cows were found dead, while over two dozen fell sick in a village in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior on Friday. The locals claimed that the cows died due to drinking contaminated water in the nearby lake.
The incident happened in Baretha area of Maharajpur police station area of Gwalior.
The death of the cows has sparked outrage among the villagers, who blamed a nearby motor workshop for contaminating the water source.
7 out of 25 cows dead
According to witnesses, the cows after eating their fodder, were seen drinking water from a source near motor workshop. Shortly after, 7 cows fell ill and died instantly. while other cows also showed sign of illness. While the villagers sternly believe that the contaminated water, which the cows drank may have been adulterated with acid or chemicals that resulted to the cow's mysterious death.
The tragic sight of calves standing near the lifeless bodies of their mothers has deeply moved the local community.
Bunty, a local cowherd, stated, “After the cows drank the water from the workshop, they suddenly started feeling uneasy. Seven of them fell unconscious and died, while the others fell sick. We believe the water from the workshop may be poisonous, containing harmful chemicals.”
Workshop director denies any allegations and is open for investigation
However, the workshop director, Vijay Rajawat, has denied the allegations. He said, “The water from our workshop is not toxic. We do not use any harmful chemicals or acid. We welcome any investigation into this matter to prove the water is not the cause of the cows' deaths.”
Police calls out for immediate action
Local authorities, including the CSP (Chief Superintendent of Police), have intervened, promising legal action once the post-mortem results are in. While villagers demand swift action, The post-mortem is expected to shed light on the exact cause of death
