BHOPAL : Besides the Bill levying fixed VAT on Petrol and Diesel, another Bill regarding hike in pay and allowances of MLAs would be presented in the ongoing Assembly session.
A meeting of the House Committee, constituted for hike in pay and allowances of MLAs, was held on Wednesday.
Deputy Speaker Rajendra Singh presided over the meeting. The Committee would send a proposal regarding hike in pay and allowances of MLAs to the state government and the Assembly Speaker.
Finance Minister Jayant Mallaiya was also present in the meeting. According to sources, Malaiya has given consent on hike in pay and allowances by bringing bill in the ongoing Assembly session. The pay of MLAs would go up to Rs 1.25 lakh per month.
Currently, they get Rs 71,000 per month. The Committee has also recommended increase in pension of former MLAs by 10 per cent. The hike would put an additional burden of Rs 150 crore per year on the state exchequer.
Also want hike in discretionary funds
A delegation of MLAs called on CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Vidhan Sabha demanding hike in MLAs’ discretionary fund from Rs 85 lakh to Rs 5 crore. At present, Rs 77 lakh is allotted for developmental projects while Rs 8 lakh is allotted them as discretionary fund. Rameshwar Sharma, Murli Patidar, Ramesh Mendola and others were in the delegation.
