BHOPAL: Scattered garbage greets visitors at the entry point of the Sri Ram Colony, Hoshangabad Road. Even though a garbage container has been placed there but the ubiquitous stray animals take no time in scattering the dumped garbage around.
Colonisers and societies of residents should also take initiative to coordinate with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation administration as far as sanitation is concerned. In illegal colonies, garbage containers must be placed outside the colonies so that residents can dump their garbage in them.
Despite arrangements for door-to-door collection, garbage is thrown on vacant plots, especially on Sundays, when the BMC does not provide the facility.
BMC is supposed to instruct the persons assigned to collect garbage from door-to-door to clean the waste dumped on vacant plots.

Garbage should be not be left dumped for long period as it start stinking and spoils the ambience. The civic body should remove it on priority basis. But this is not done and it reflects the lethargic attitude of the authorities. Door-to-door collection facility has been introduced by the BMC in the entire city. Coordination between the civic body and colonisers is a must if proper sanitation has to be maintained. The dumped garbage should be lifted daily and at a fixed time. But it is unfortunate that despite tall claims, the BMC administration has totally failed in ensuring proper sanitation in the state capital. It is deplorable that the civic body is hardly bothered about timely lifting of garbage from the city, especially from residential colonies. The situation is worse in colonies which the BMC treats as illegal. It is double standard of BMC Administration that it collects taxes from the residents of “illegal colonies” but does not provide facilities to them.
