BHOPAL : Amid the row over the number of deaths of Vyapam accused, Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha Satyadev Katare raised a related issue on Thursday seeking the number of parents and candidates who died after having failed to clear Vyapam exams, which were fixed.
In a letter to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Katare said “The government should find out the number of parents and candidates who could not pass Vyapam conducted tests because of fixing of seats and either committed suicide or died of shock.”
“The government has the responsibility of collecting the data on deaths of such candidates,” the LoP said. Lakhs of candidates appeared in Vyapam recruitment and entrance tests with the hope to get success. When they failed they faced mental stress,” he said.
Referring to BJP state President Nandkumar Singh Chauhan claiming that only 14 persons involved in the scam had died, the Congress leader said the government was downplaying the issue. He said that the SIT had revealed before the High Court that 42 accused had died in different circumstances.
