Heavy rains over last two days push season’s total above normal mark

BHOPAL : Incessant rain continued to drench the state capital for the second day on Friday. The city recorded 180 mm rainfall in the last 48 hours. The seasonal total for the rainfall in the city is now 506 mm, which is 72 mm above normal.

Monsoon remained vigorously active over Madhya Pradesh on Friday, with low pressure area lying over Sagar and Umaria.

Many rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark. In Vidisha district, the Betwa river is flowing above a bridge, blocking the NH-146 connecting Dewas with Kanpur. Similarly, swollen Kauri river has snapped the road connectivity of Raisen with Vidisha and Sanchi. Bareli has been cut-off from all sides due to overflowing Ghagora river. Swollen Kalisindh river has cut off Agar from Rajgarh. The Doodhi river in Rajgarh district is flowing seven feet above the bridge. In Bhopal, it rained in the afternoon, reducing the day temperature by almost five degree Celsius. Bhopal recorded a maximum temperature of 26.5°C, which was 3°C below normal while it recorded a minimum temperature of 22.5°C, which was normal. On Thursday, the day temperature was 31.3°C. It showed that day temperature reduced by almost 5 degree Celsius, infusing coolness in the atmosphere.

As per meteorological department, moderate to heavy rainfall would occur at most places over Indore, Ujjain and Bhopal divisions and Shivpuri, Guna and Ashok Nagar districts. Moderate rainfall would occur at many places over Hoshangabad, Jabalpur divisions and Sagar and Raisen districts.

The Met office has issued warning of very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Ujjain division and Rajgarh district over the next 48 hours. There may be heavy rainfall in Bhopal, Vidisha, Indore, Guna, Ashok Nagar, and Seopurkalan districts within next 48 hours.

Two women washed away in Rajgarh

Two women were washed away in a nullah in Rajgarh on Friday. One body has been fished out while operation was continuing to fish out the other. As per the police, Kausalya,50, and Bhavari Bai, 45, of Jamunia village were washed away in a swollen Nullah. The local residents raised an alarm. Immediately, administration and police force rushed to spot to for rescue operation. Rajgarh Collector Anand Kumar Sharma said, “Two women were washed away in swelled nullah. For the last two days, it is raining heavily in entire region snapping all the road connectivity from Shajapur, Jirapur, Khilchipur. These women were crossing their cattle across the nullah. The cattle crossed the nullah but these women were washed away. One body has been fished out while still we carry on rescue operation to trace out other. We have already warned the people not to cross any water bodies.”
