BHOPAL: The memorial of Bhopal Gas Tragedy will be established with inspiration from Hiroshima said gas disaster relief minister Vishwas Sarang while inspecting the Union Carbide factory on Sunday. He added that such memorial is important to make aware the coming generation about such disasters.
Pricipal Secretary Gouri Singh said that the memorial will be constructed for nearly Rs 180 crore and the work has also begun. Environment planning and Coordination Organisation will be designing the memorial and the construction will be under CPA.
For construction of memorial over 68 acres of campus, the chemical waste will be removed and to prove that the waste is no more harmful, Sarang took the waste in his hands and said, “The 10 ton of waste has been shifted to Pithampura based Ramki Pvt Ltd Company and the 370 ton waste at Union Carbide will be shifted soon. Discussion is underway for this with Central Pollution Control Board.” He further said, “For financial and health rehabilitation of victims of gas tragedy, a study has been conducted based on which the work will begin soon”.
Process underway for yrs with no outcome in sight
The planning for the construction of the memorial at the campus of the Union Carbide has been going since many years. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also announced the construction and lakhs of rupees has also been spent in the name of construction. Competition for the design has also been conducted but no one is ready to deal with the removal of the residual waste at the UC, which has turned into soil.
