BHOPAL : In the ongoing free interview classes at Central Library Bhopal, psychologist Dr Noorjahan Khan delivered a lecture. As many as 100 candidates, who have been selected for interview in the state civil service exam conducted by the PSC, attended the lecture.
Khan in her lecture said interview is not a test of one’s knowledge but it is a test of one’s personality. She suggested that one should look confident but not over-confident during interview and the confidence should come from within. Conviction, commitment and courage develop confidence. She said we need to develop a ‘Believe System’ to develop confidence in oneself. One should not judge oneself and compare one with others. She emphasised on having positive body language during interview. One should never try to control the body language. One should remain oneself and should not put a mask. Fear is normal but do not let it dominate you. She said breathing technique can be useful in overcoming fear. During interview, one should not make excessive use of hand movements as it shows that you want to dominate the interview board.
Don’t sit on the edge of the seat and there should be minimal neck movement. The candidates need to know that no clothes are ideal for interview. One should keep in mind that ‘Don’t Impress, Don’t Depress but only Express’. During interview, our voice must have proper rhythm, volume and pitch. She suggested keeping away from ‘Emotional Foolishness’ which can be overcome by having Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is developed by self-awareness and empathy. The interview board tests candidates’ administrative aptitude.
