BHOPAL : The Crime Branch of the city police, on Wednesday, picked up a man from Lucknow, who, impersonating an Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel, defrauded a city resident of his car, besides duping many others in the name of getting them jobs in IB, Railways and other government departments.
Arjun Bharati trapped Brijesh Pandey a resident of Piplani area by promising to get his Tata Safari attached with the IB office. He claimed that he was working for the IB and even showed him an ID card to prove his credentials.
He started using the car himself and when Pandey demanded rent of the vehicle, he told the latter that he would get him a job in IB in return for Rs 90,000. Pandey readily paid him the amount. After that, he duped several other persons with similar promises and collected around Rs 5.50 lakh from them. Then, he disappeared, along with the car and the cash.
On Pandey’s complaint, the Crime Branch registered a case and started looking for Bharati. After a long search, the cops managed to trace his whereabouts. It was discovered that he was a resident of the Maleehabad police station area in Lucknow.
A police team from Bhopal arrested him with the help of the UP police. He was taken on transit remand and brought to Bhopal and presented in a court on Thursday. He was taken on police remand and is being quizzed regarding his modus operandi and other similar crimes committed by him. A fake ID card of IB was also seized from him.
