Congress stages demo to protest deletion of names from BPL list

BHOPAL : The district Congress activists staged a demonstration and tried to gherao the state assembly to protest the deleting the names of the Below Poverty Line beneficiaries of the district along with a large number of others from across the state on Thursday. Police thwarted the protesters’ advance towards the assembly and pushed them back.

The district Congress president PC Sharma alleged that the government has deleted 66,000 names of BPL beneficiaries of the Bhopal district and around 8 lakh of the state.

He alleged when the UPA government was in power the state government passed the proposal that more 40 lakh names have to be incorporated in the BPL list, now the government is deleting the names.

He added that if the names are not restored in the BPL list the party will gherao the district collector after one week. They submitted a memorandum to the SDM.
